About

Generation Hope: The Virginia LGBTQ+ Elder History Project is an oral history project dedicated to honoring and preserving the stories, life experiences, and wisdom of Virginia’s LGBTQ+ elders ages 65 and older. Preserving LGBTQ+ elder histories is an act of community care. By recording their stories, this project aims to acknowledge the rich lived experience of Virginia’s LGBTQ+ elders and document our community’s past.

Through healing-centered engagement and a person-centered, trauma-informed approach, Generation Hope works to ensure that the voices of those who paved the way for today’s LGBTQ+ community are heard, valued, and honored.

Accessible to anyone seeking to learn and understand their place in a long continuum of pride, resistance, and resilience, Generation Hope stands as a bridge between generations. It serves as a celebration of LGBTQ+ elders and an invitation to carry their stories forward with pride, appreciation, and love.
